A Toronto man was in hospital Wednesday night after he apparently jumped from a railing in Toronto's Eaton Centre mall.
Police and EMS officials were called to the busy mall around 5:15 p.m. after the man, whose identity hasn't been released, jumped from a railing on a sub-level floor near the entrance to the Dundas subway, Toronto police Detective Brad Brigham said.
The unidentified man landed one storey below, at the base of an escalator.
“I don't think it was accidental,” Det. Brigham said. “Apparently he was talking to a female. No one really heard any yelling,” and after the woman walked away the man jumped, the officer said.
The incident left part of the south portion of the mall, on a lower level near the subway, taped off briefly. The mall was packed with shoppers at the time of the incident.
He was taken to hospital in serious condition, but was alert when he left the mall, Det. Brigham said. The officer expects him to recover from his injuries.
